Railroad Access
Richland County has two Class I railroads - CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern Railway. Both railways provide direct access to the Port of Charleston.
With 21,000 miles of track, CSX has access to 70 ports and nationwide transloading and warehousing services.

Norfolk Southern Railway operates approximately 20,000 route miles in 22 states and the District of Columbia, serves every major container port in the eastern United States, and provides efficient connections to other rail carriers. Norfolk Southern also operates a 200-acre terminal at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, creating an intermodal hub linking air, rail and truck to east coast seaports. The facility, which is capable of 200,000 lifts annually, will transfer containers between trucks and trains.
