Columbia-based Unitrends, a provider of data backup and recovery solutions, reported Tuesday its 17th straight record quarter of growth in sales as the company steams toward its goal of $100 million in annual revenue.
The privately held company did not reveal actual dollar amounts for the quarter. However, Unitrends said it recorded 88% growth in sales in 2012 over 2011, and 61% growth in bookings for the first quarter of 2013 compared with the first three months of 2012.
Other highlights for the first quarter include:
•80% growth in registrations with resellers.
•320 new customers signed. Unitrends now has more than 3,600 customers worldwide.
The company, founded in 1984, has experienced growth since 2009.
“In just a few short years, Unitrends has gone from sleepy to supersonic,” said Mike Coney, president and CEO. “We are profitable. We are the fastest-growing backup and recovery provider serving midmarket companies. And we are making tremendous strides toward achieving our revenue milestone of $100 million annually.”
The company now has more than 180 employees roughly split between its corporate headquarters in Columbia and an office in Burlington, Mass. The Columbia office handles customer service and engineering operations; Burlington is home to sales and marketing functions.
The goal is to have about 220 workers on the payroll by the end of 2013, Coney said.
