South Carolina expands I-77 access with new interchange, sparking mixed reactions

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WLTX, February 3, 2025) — Monday afternoon South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster was joined by Scout Motors' CEO and other dignitaries at a ceremonial groundbreaking of the Scout Motors Drive Interchange.

The project, which is already underway will add a new exit, number 26, to Interstate 77. The new exit will be about a mile and a half south of Blythewood Boulevard and will serve as additional access to the Scout Motors manufacturing facility.

Richland County Council Chair Jessica Mackey described what traffic engineers hope to accomplish with the new interchange.

“This new interchange isn’t just a benefit for Scout, but a boost for our residents and commuters by increasing mobility as the area grows around us,” Mackey said.
